WASHINGTON — Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 252, 867 2008-'11 Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars for possible dimming or failure of the taillights, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalled cars include the 2008-'11 Mercedes-Benz C300, C300 4Matic, C350 and C63 AMG.

"In the affected vehicles, a poor electrical ground connection may result in the dimming or failure of the taillights, " said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "Dimming or failure of the taillights reduces the ability to warn other motorists of the driver's intentions of stopping or turning, increasing the risk of a crash."

The affected C-Class cars were built from January 26, 2007 through July 13, 2011.

Christian Bokich, a Mercedes-Benz spokesman, told Edmunds there are no injuries, crashes or fatalities linked to the recall.

In 2013, NHTSA opened an investigation into the issue of taillight failures in the aforementioned cars.

says: Parts are not currently available and are not expected to arrive at dealerships until August or September. If you have an immediate concern, it's best to get in touch with either the company or your dealership.
