For fun. Summer travel. Great heated seats. You can set perimeters for each driver. Dual temperature control. The Argus Company in Santa Cruz, CA was a dream to deal with.
Car drives like a dream. Sport model we got takes corners like a sport car. Good mpg. We bought from a dealer with a used car warranty. The car seems to have had a leak in the transfer case cooling line. Service done before and after I had it looked at registered on CarFax as "checked fluids". Needless to say we were disappointed that CarFax does not show accurate repair history.
It had 99k miles on it, but Mercedes are known for lasting to 200k or more. We were looking for a car with a 3rd row of seats that we could use when we are in the area during the summers. Very pleased so far! Had taken it to our mechanic who checked over all the systems before we purchased it.
The car looks cool, drives great, and is comfortable on hours-long trips. I would be happier with the SL55 or SL600, as they have more power. Chances are you'll have to replace the window clips, as they break really easy when opening the door before the window drops to clear the gasket.

Mercedes-Benz (often shortened to Mercedes) is the automotive division of Daimler AG, building automobiles, trucks, buses, engines and luxury vehicles. In the United States, Mercedes is best known for its luxury cars. The company traces its origins to 1886 and Karl Benz' Benz Patent Motorwagen, widely regarded as the first gasoline-powered automobile. The company as we know it was created in 1926 with the merger of Mercedes and Daimler-Benz.
Mercedes-Benz is known for introducing technological and safety innovations that become the benchmark in automotive globally. These include ABS braking, airbags, crumple zones, electronic stability systems, and more ' all of which are licensed openly to other manufacturers in the name of safety improvement worldwide. Mercedes is also credited with building the first robotic car in 1980. Today, the company builds vehicles around the world, including at their facility near Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Mercedes-Benz U.S. International), which opened in 1997 and produces the M-, R-, GL- and C-Class vehicles.
In the last several years of surveys, J.D. Power has consistently rated Mercedes vehicles above average. The company produces vehicles for the U.S. market that range from compact cars to large sport utilities and limousines. They are most well-known in America for their two- and four-door luxury executive cars, sport utility vehicles, and AMG-branded sports cars.
The company's focus on safety continues as they develop groundbreaking automotive safety systems such as Pre-Safe, a system which uses the vehicle's sensors to anticipate an accident and prime safety response systems before impact. It snugs seatbelts for locking, adjusts head restraints, closing windows and more. Other innovations include the DICE System for finger gesturing to control infotainment and other in-car features without taking eyes off the road or hands off the wheel.
